The Lockhart Trek
written by Anne Miedama
We are practically there! With roughly three months left till we depart from good ol’ Texas for the glorious mountains of Colorado, spirits are high in our hiking group! In preparation for the expedition, our team has been grouping at different parks to test out our hiking boots and build up our strength. It has been a great way of tracking down our limits and being able to determine what everyone’s weaknesses and strengths are. A recent trek we endeavored was at Lockhart State Park. I have to admit, this has definitely been the prettiest park I've been to so far. There were lots of wildflowers and gorgeous trees along with a babbling brook!! Well… It was more of a trickling stream in some areas but forget about that.
We started at 9:00 am and continued till 11:00 am and as you can see, we had a few minor setbacks when it came to the mud puddles and caterpillars, but with perseverance, we carried on.
The entire time we were walking, my mom and a little girl named Riley were talking about the names of the trees and such. Eventually, they ran into a big green seed whose name had stumped them, so they deemed it, “The Texas Tiny Green Coconut.”
Overall, we had a blast, and all of us look forward to proceeding with these hikes. I am thrilled to be strengthening my mind and relationship with God as well as my physical body. From personal experience, I know that the best way to learn about God’s creation is to surround yourself with it. And what better way to do that than to (I know it's a shocker…) go outside! I believe that once you strip away all the distractions of everyday life (your phone, for example) and take a step outside, all that's really left is you and God. I know that it can be uncomfortable to step away from what you are used to, but I firmly believe that when you do so you will be able to truly see what a beautiful awesome God we serve.
We are all very blessed to have this opportunity to go hiking, and I pray that we will continue to go on trips like this, whether they are as extreme as the first or not. Thank you so much for your support, and I pray you have a blessed day.
PEACE OUT ✌️
